Intel next-gen Ultrabook reference design with touchscreen display hands-on |
| http://www.tweaktown.com Earlier on today we were invited to an Intel Ultrabook event at the Sherwood hotel here in Taipei where we got a run-down on Intel\'s Ultrabook technologies including Intel Rapid Start Technology, Smart Response Technology, Smart Connect Technology, Anti-Theft and Identity Protection Technology. All of the demos Intel ran at the event were actually rather impressive and paint the Ultrabook platform to be a very solid product in my eyes. After the event we were allowed to go hands-on with all the Ultrabooks on display from ASUS, Acer, Dell, Lenovo, Samsung, HP and Toshiba. Since many of you would have already seen these covered before, we opted not to focus on them, but what we did find was a brand new prototype / reference design next-generation Intel Ultrabook with a touchscreen display. That spiked your interest, right? This is just a system built my Intel to show the capabilities of next-gen Ultrabooks and you won\'t actually be able to buy it. As I mentioned, it comes with a touchscreen display which bodes well for Intel\'s vision to build a platform which is premium portability, style and performance. The video above gives you a rundown of the next-gen Ultrabook running Windows 7 along with Zinio beta software which provides the eBook touch software. Intel mentioned that the Zinio software is still in beta and not perfected yet, but from what we saw, the experience was pretty good. It was also mentioned that the experience is much better under Windows 8, but unfortunately Intel were not allowed to show us this Ultrabook running Windows 8 with its native built-in touch support.

Sapphire Radeon HD 7850 and 7870 OC Edition Video Card Unboxing |
| http://www.tweaktown.com Yesterday we gave you our first video unboxing of the MSI Z77A-GD65 from the Taipei Test Lab and today we bring you another involving two AMD Radeon 7800 series video cards from Sapphire. Lately we have been very impressed with the cooling solutions Sapphire has used on its video cards and from what we have seen today, this trend looks to continue here. In the video above we cover both the Sapphire Radeon HD 7850 OC Edition as well as the Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 OC Edition video cards. The 7850 OC Edition features an impressive looking dual fan cooler with a single heatpipe which exhausts hot air out the back of your case. The bundle is rather impressive too including a card to join the Sapphire Select Club, quick installation guide, DVI to VGA connector, molex to PCI Express power connector, mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter, HDMI to DVI connector, CrossFire bridge and a HDMI cable. Next up in the video above is the 7870 OC Edition which in many ways is quite similar to the 7850 OC Edition, just bigger in all ways - the cooler is pretty much the same except it is bigger just like the retail box. The bundle is exactly the same as the 7850 video card expect it comes with an additional Molex to PCI Express power connector since the video card calls for it with its higher power draw requirements since it is of course a faster video card. Close-up look at GIGABYTE's Intel Z77 Ivy Bridge motherboards |
| http://www.tweaktown.com Earlier on today we visited the GIGABYTE headquarters here in Taipei where we got some exclusive hands-on time with its range of upcoming Intel Z77 \"Ivy Bridge\" Socket 1155 motherboards. These are the boards that will support the upcoming third and fourth generation Intel Core processors that are due to come onto the market sometime in April as far as we know at this stage of the game. We also know that the performance of these said processors is really impressive and the power consumption numbers are great, too. We cannot go into too many details about this platform at this stage, but what we can do is give you a look at what GIGABYTE has planned for the platform with a look at four of its upcoming Z77 boards which we went hands-on with today. We\'ll start off with the big daddy which is the G1.Sniper 3, this is a board designer for gamers as well as overclockers and represents as the highest end Z77 board from GIGABYTE at this stage. It comes with an improved cooling setup with oversized heatsinks and a more minimalistic cooler design - rather than a big gun shaped heatsink at the south end of the board, there is just a small golden skull with a knife held in its mouth. The board has support for three-way SLI and four-way CrossFireX thanks to the inclusion of a PLX bridge chip which provides extra PCI Express lanes. It has some other good features including Creative Core3D quad-core audio processor onboard sound with a shielded setup to reduce electrical interference, dual gigabit LAN (one Intel and one Qualcomm Killer Game Networking), Lucid Virtu MVP, mSATA and plenty of USB 3.0 support which now comes curtsey natively via the Z77 chipset from Intel. Next up we move down to the Z77X-UD5H which is similar in many ways to the G1.Sniper 3, except of course being a cheaper model, it has some features taken off. For one it doesn\'t include the additional PLX bridge which means the board only gets two-way SLI and CrossFire support. This board still features the oversized heatsinks, ...
