The whole USB 3 market has been incredibly slow to take off, mainly thanks to several rather poor implementations of USB 3 controllers, and more specifically, the drivers.  Thankfully, most of those shenanigans are now out of the way, and we can enjoy the much higher speeds that are on offer. Today, we are going to look at an external USB 3 2.5" hard drive caddy from StarTech, promising data transfer of up to 5Gbps.  We are always a little sceptical when the old "up to" phrase is used, but to be fair, the actual speeds you get, will depend greatly upon the drive that you fit into the caddy, so what better than an SSD capable of over 300MB/Sec?  Not much, we'd say!  So, armed with our SSD, StarTech caddy and our test bench, let's hook it up and see what it can do!
