Do you (like myself) miss the snappy feel of the DDR2 tight timing RAM of the previous generation of computers? I know when I switched to the P55/i7 platform that I now have, it just didn't feel as snappy as the computer I was replacing. I found a couple of ways to bring back the snappy feel I was so used to. First was the addition of an SSD and the second was higher frequency DDR3 RAM. You would think that going from DDR2-1066 RAM to DDR3-1600 RAM would only serve to increase the performance and feel of your computing experience, but I found it lacking that good 'ol "snappy feel". Raising the RAM frequency at or above the 2000 Mhz boundary seemed to bring back the quickness and my enjoyment of my computer once again. Today we are taking a look at a set of DDR3-2000 RAM from Patriot Memory, namely the Viper Xtreme 4 GB set. This particular set of memory runs at a guaranteed frequency of 2000 Mhz at timings of 9-10-9-27 at 1.65v. This memory sports an extruded aluminum medium rise heat spreader with the addition of a copper strip (6 grams per module) to facilitate thermal transfer between the memory modules and the aluminum heat spreader. Patriot has stated that this design will result in a 5% better thermal profile than standard aluminum-only heat spreaders.
