If you are a regular reader here at Clunk.org.uk, you'll know that we primarily cater to the PC enthusiast with our reviews, and today's subject is no exception! We are going to be looking at a super high end fan controller, something, that perhaps many of us may have not considered previously, however, for those in the know, and for those that use many fans for whatever reason, a good quality fan controller can be an absolute must.
In recent years, many manufacturers have dipped their proverbial toe into the fan controller market, however, most have failed, for a couple of reasons - Firstly, some of the models that we've seen have been hideous, and lets not mince our words here, when you are buying something for your PC that is going to be highly visible on the front of the case, you don't really want it to have some pig ugly graphics and logo. Another area where some manufacturers have failed is the lack of available wattage for each channel. Picture the scene, you spend all day braiding your fan cables, soldering six fan cables together for push pull on a 360 radiator, and you hook it up and the fan controller melts. We've done it with several supposedly decent controllers, and it is rather irritating! So, what we need, is a damn fine looking fan controller that has more than enough "electrical muscle" (that sounds vaguely rude doesn't it?, good, I'll leave it in then :D) - Enter the Lamptron FC Touch Fan Controller.
In short, the FC touch, is, as the name suggests, a touch screen fan controller, that can display various details about your fan's statuses, it looks fantastic, and get this, it offers a mammoth 30w per channel! When you consider that even "uber" fans, such as the Scythe ultra Kaze 3000RPM, use a little under 8w each, you can see that this is a controller that means business. In general, most people will be using low to moderate RPM fan, and they will come in somewhere under 2w each, so a possible fifteen fans per channel is possible, in theory! Of course, the likelihood of anyone wanting to do this is quite low, but the possibility is there, if that's your bag!
So, lets get the FC touch set up, and see how it performs!
