For the most part it can be said that Intel holds the current speed crown. You can argue that AMD has the best price per MHz [and might be right]. But for many the idea of performance is not what the CPU can do out of the box, but what can it do when you pump large amounts of voltage while slowly pouring in liquid nitrogen. To these people many of Intel’s CPUs are simply the way to go.  After all we have easily reached an almost 2GHz overclock on our core i5 750; and that was only with air cooling. But that CPU is also a non-hyper threaded CPU.  The problem has come with the HT enabled CPUs. Many have had to turn HT off to get really high clocks on their CPUs.  Well Intel has stepped up with a new ‘K’ Series CPU that is designed just for the overclocker. These CPUs feature Unlocked Multipliers, Better tolerance for voltage and current, and also more memory dividers. We have had the good fortune to get one of these in the lab for tinkering with.  SO without too much or my usual preamble let’s dive into testing an Intel core i7 875 K and see what we can make it do with nothing but air [cooling].
